Qualitative vs. Quantitative Methods
We often design studies that include both qualitative and quantitative methods in order to provide insights that using a single methodology may overlook. Here’s a rundown on qualitative and quantitative methodologies and their differences.
Generally speaking, qualitative research is most appropriate for identifying unknown issues, and quantitative research is most appropriate for testing issues by using a sample of the target population that is representative of the larger target population. We often use the two approaches simultaneously because they complement each other and can provide insights that a single methodology may not.
